31 jobs due at aluminium firm

Some 31 jobs are to be created at an aluminium design firm.

Architectural and Metal Systems (AMS), which develops aluminium window and door systems, is to spend €8m expanding its Cork plant.

Enterprise Minister Batt O'Keeffe said AMS was an ambitious export-led Irish firm with innovation at its heart, "based on cutting-edge technology".

Four Poofs nab Daybreak gig

Four Poofs And A Piano are to return to TV -- after signing up to appear in new ITV1 show Daybreak, alongside Grainne Seoige.

The popular quartet were Jonathan Ross's house band on his BBC1 chat show until its run ended last July.

Four Poofs will compose a topical song summing up the news of the previous few days to round off the week.

Seven guilty of child sex abuse

Seven people have been found guilty of child sex abuse charges after a major trial in Portugal lasting nearly six years.

Six men and one woman were convicted of crimes including sexually abusing minors and adolescents, raping children and running a paedophile ring at a state-run children's home in Lisbon during the 1990s.

The abuse centred on Casa Pia, a 230-year-old institution caring for roughly 4,500 needy children.
