3 charged over mum's 'abuse'

A mentally disabled woman charged with shoplifting a chocolate bar asked to be jailed because three people "had been mean to her" – then went on to tell authorities about her time spent in unfathomably cruel servitude, along with her young daughter, at the hands of three people, US authorities said.

Authorities announced federal charges on Tuesday against three people they say invited the woman and her child to live with them in their blue-collar Ashland, Ohio, neighbourhood.

The woman and her daughter were freed in October, authorities said, and they are doing well.

MONSTERS TO GO BACK TO SCHOOL

One-eyed green monster Mike Wazowski and his giant blue, furry friend James P 'Sully' Sullivan go back in time as 'scaring' students in Monsters University, as Walt Disney Co's Pixar Animation Studios pins its hopes for a blockbuster on the coming-of-age story.

Monsters University, a prequel to 2001 animated film Monsters, Inc, will be released tomorrow in US theatres, and director Dan Scanlon said one of the main challenges was to keep the film fresh and surprising for audiences.

WE KILLED 4 US TROOPS – TALIBAN

The Taliban have claimed responsibility for an attack in Afghanistan that killed four American troops just hours after it announced it would hold talks with the US.

The attack underscores the challenges in trying to end the violence in Afghanistan through peace negotiations in Qatar with militants still fighting on the ground.

Taliban spokesman Zabiullah Mujahid said the insurgents fired two rockets into the Bagram airbase outside the Afghan capital Kabul.
