¤25k payout in stairs fall case

A FORMER kitchen porter who injured his arm after slipping and falling down stairs in a restaurant has been awarded €25,000 in damages.

Muhammad Idris (31), of Robert Street, Dublin 8, sued the owners of Bobo's burger restaurant on Eccles Street following an incident at the premises on August 23, 2007.

He sued Sherland Entertainments Ltd, with an address at South Great George's Street, Dublin, for alleged negligence, breach of duty and breach of the sections of the Safety, Health and Welfare at Work Act 2005.

The company had conceded liability and Mr Justice Nicholas Kearns at the High court awarded damages.

Burned bodies found in Mexico

THE bodies of 12 people found in a burning truck in the home state of Mexico's most powerful drug cartel may be those of kidnap victims, including policemen.

Investigators found 12 bodies in the back of a burning truck in Culiacan yesterday, some handcuffed and wearing bulletproof vests.

Authorities say they may be part of a group of nine people, including three police officers, who were kidnapped on Monday.

Minutes later, another burning truck was found with four bodies inside.

Boy trashed his granny's house

A 17-YEAR-OLD boy, who trashed his grandparents' home and stole their car, has been spared custody.

The boy has admitted possessing €800 worth of cocaine for sale or supply and also pleaded guilty to criminal damage at the house. He also admitted stealing his grandfather's car twice in July.

He caused about €1,200 worth of damages during the rampage at the home of his grandparents, the Dublin Children's Court has heard.

Yesterday, Judge Bryan Smyth imposed a 12-month probation bond.
