20,000 green jobs plan

THE sustainable energy sector could yield 20,000 new jobs over the next eight years, if the Government pumps investment into the sector, it is claimed.

The research, from trade group the Sustainable Energy Authority of Ireland (SEAI), claims 10,000 jobs in the sector could be trebled by 2020 through direct investment and improved competitiveness. SEAI expects that some 9,000 roles could be created in renewable energy while 4,000 jobs could come from energy efficiency and smart technology.

Minister Pat Rabbitte said that sustainable energy was becoming the norm in Ireland and with that change came economic opportunities and jobs.
