200 stitches for man who had face sliced

A young man needed almost 200 stitches after his face was sliced open in a Halloween attack.

Aaron Redmond was set upon by four criminals after being wrongly blamed for a bottle attack on a 4x4 vehicle.

The young man from Santry, north Dublin, was discharged from hospital on Monday but may be be disfigured for life.

When the Herald called to his family home last night relatives did not wish to comment.

A source said: "This was some horror attack. He suffered horrendous injuries to his face from a Stanley blade, a broken bottle and a screwdriver.



"He was not even involved in the earlier incident – the fella comes from a decent family."

The assault on Ballymun Avenue is being investigated by detectives at Santry Garda Station. A black 4x4 has been forensically examined.

Four suspects caught on CCTV have already been arrested and their homes searched.

Gardai have confirmed that they have conducted a number of searches.

The chief suspect is a 19-year-old who previously served a jail sentence after he tried to drive over another man in a 4x4 after he beat him up. He has at least seven previous convictions and is considered "out of control".

Three of those arrested are from Santry while another is from Finglas.
