2 hurt in suspected pipe bomb explosion

GARDAI are investigating the cause of an explosion in Coolock over the weekend.

Two men in their 20s were rushed to Beaumont Hospital after the blast in the back garden of a house, at Moate View Avenue, Coolock.

Their injuries are believed to be serious but not life threatening.

It is understood that a pipe bomb may have been the source of the explosion.

Anyone with information has been asked to contact Coolock Garda Station on 01 666 4200.

Meanwhile, a man is due in court today, charged in connection with the seizure of €2.5m worth of drugs in Coolock.

The discovery was made as a result of an intelligence led operation targetting the sale and supply of drugs in Dublin.

Gardai seized cannabis with an estimated street value of €2.5m on Friday afternoon after officers from Coolock Drugs Unit and local gardai searched a number of premises.

A man in his 40s was arrested and detained at Coolock Garda Station under Section 2 of the Criminal Justice (Drug Trafficking) Act, 1996.

He is due to be charged later this morning at The Criminal Courts of Justice.
