A drugs gang has been dealt a major blow after cannabis and tablets with a street value of €1m was seized in county Dublin.
Two men were arrested in the carefully planned intelligence-led operation involving customs officers and gardai.
The massive shipment of 75kg of herbal cannabis herb and ecstasy tablets was tracked from Holland before it landed in Dublin Port yesterday.
When it arrived it was put under surveillance by customs officers and gardai who followed it after it was collected and driven to Rathcoole in county Dublin.
At about 3.20pm customs officers and gardai moved in.
They raided a house and recovered cannabis worth about €900,000. About 10,000 ecstasy tablets were also discovered in a shed on the premises.
The operation involved Revenue's Customs Service, based at Dublin Port, the Garda National Drugs Unit and gardai from Tallaght and Store Street stations.
Two men, aged 49 and 34, were arrested at the house and taken to Clondalkin garda station where they are being held.
