10 billion iTunes sold

APPLE's iTunes has made a huge breakthrough with the announcement that music fans have now downloaded more than 10 billion songs from the iTunes store.

Apple gave away a €8,000 iTunes gift voucher to the unnamed music fan who was responsible for making the milestone download.

Research outfit NDP Group says the technology company retains about two-thirds of the music download market and 25pc of all songs are now sold from the iTunes store.

The 10 billionth track recorded was I Guess Things Happen That Way, by Johnny Cash.
