New boss Howe desperate to improve Clarets' away form

New Burnley manager Eddie Howe has set his sights on improving the Clarets' away form as he prepares for his first game in charge at Scunthorpe this evening.

Howe, 33, made the decision to quit League One side Bournemouth after their defeat to Colchester eight days ago before watching Burnley's draw with Championship leaders QPR at Turf Moor.

But today's encounter will be his first since being appointed and he is keen to improve on a record of just one win from their 11 games on the road this season, particularly as the visit to Glanford Park is the first of three consecutive league games away from home.

"It's not a great statistic, especially with three away games coming up," Howe said.

"We'd love to turn that around and get a few wins on the road.

"We can't rely on home form, and these three games are an opportunity to put that right."

With that in mind, Howe has spent most of the past week analysing the Iron, who were also Burnley's opponents for predecessor Brian Laws' final match.

Howe added: "I'll have square eyes by the end of the week.

"I've been watching a lot of DVDs on Scunthorpe and of our games this season, trying to get more of a feel of the squad and the games that we've played.

"There are good players here. I wouldn't say I'm surprised at the quality -- I expected it. Training's been of a good quality and I've been pleased with the squad.

"There are improvements we can make to it and there are areas we can improve the players that we've got, so that's all positive.

"We are learning about everybody at the club and learning about the club itself. We've had to take a lot in. It's been a hectic week but one we've really enjoyed."
