My girl was raped in bed next to me -- court claim

A MAN told a court he awoke to find another man raping his girlfriend beside him in a Tipperary hotel.

He was giving evidence in the Central Criminal Court trial of a man accused of raping the woman while she slept in a hotel bed following a wedding.

The alleged victim had previously given evidence that she was woken by someone performing oral sex on her which then became full sex.

She said she initially thought that it was her boyfriend until she felt her boyfriend stirring beside her in the bed.

The 28-year-old accused has pleaded not guilty to raping the woman at the hotel following a wedding function on July 7, 2008.

Under cross-examination the woman denied a suggestion by defence counsel Michael Delaney that she had invited the accused into her room, talked with him and then had consensual sex with him.

Mr Delaney put it to her that they then both fell asleep only to be woken by her boyfriend punching the accused.

She dismissed the assertion as "completely false."

The woman's boyfriend told prosecuting counsel Eanna Molloy that he awoke to find the accused having sex with his girlfriend.

"What I seen when I woke up was the most shocking, terrible thing that could happen," he said.

He said he punched the man at the same time as his girlfriend pushed him off her.

He said he then jumped over the woman to try to "beat, punch and kick" the accused who was naked.

He said that he chased him out of the room into the hallway.

He said his girlfriend was hysterical, had curled up into the foetal position and was "wailing and crying".

"We've been together for a long time, through thick and thin, but this was beyond anything like I have ever seen her," he told Mr Molloy.

He said that the accused kept saying "what's the deal, what's the deal" as he was being chased from the room.

The trial continues before Mr Justice Paul Carney and a jury of six men and six women.
