Motorcyclist dies in early morning crash in city centre

The incident occurred on North Wall Quay before the 3Arena at approximately 7.30am. Nobody else was injured in the incident.

It is believed the motorcyclist was a Polish national who lived in Ireland. He was in his mid to late 30s. He was part of a small group of motorcyclists who were travelling home to Poland this morning for a trip.

The man was killed instantly and was pronounced dead at the scene.

The North Quays are closed from North Wall Quay to the 3Arena as gardai carry out an examination of the scene following the crash.

Diversions for motorists are in place. Diversions inbound are along Castleforbes Road and outbound onto New Wapping Street.

Bus routes 33x and 41x will operate from the Port Tunnel via Sheriff Street, Amiens Street and back to normal route, AA Roadwatch reports.

The motorcyclist's death is the second fatality on Dublin roads this week.

Cyclist Eugene Maher (62) was killed in an apparent hit and run on Tuesday evening at a busy Clontarf junction.

Mr Maher was cycling on the Clontarf Road when he was hit by a car at the junction of the Howth Road at around 6.30pm on Tuesday.

Mr Maher was rushed to Beaumont Hospital, but was pronounced dead a short time later.
