Mother's illness led girl to kick in window

A TEENAGER who drunkenly kicked in the window of a shop has claimed that he has been "all over the place" recently as his mother is terminally ill.

Evan McCoy (19) admitted he's been drinking too much and getting into trouble with gardai. Judge Grainne Malone ordered a community services report and adjourned sentencing to next January.

The judge also remanded McCoy on bail after she heard that he had spent a "frightening" week in custody.

KICKING

The defendant, with an address at Whitechurch Park in Rathfarnham, admitted before Cloverhill District Court to a charge of criminal damage at Centra, Main Street in Clongriffin on July 27 last year.

Garda Sergeant Stephen Nalty said McCoy was seen kicking the front window of a Centra shop, smashing the glass and causing €1,200 worth of damage. Sgt Nalty said the insurance company paid for some of the damage, and the outstanding liability was €800.

McCoy further admitted to possession of a Swiss army knife and scissors at Main Street, Clongriffin, Donaghmede on February 15, 2013, and to having a scissors at North Earl Street, Dublin 1 on October 25 last.

Judge Malone said the issue of compensation remains at large.
