A MISS Ireland finalist has been the victim of a vicious road rage assault just days before the contest.

Miss Dublin North Rebecca Maher is determined to appear on stage tomorrow night despite the incident in which she was punched in the face.

Gardai are understood to be investigating the attack which occurred in Limerick.

Rebecca (20) was left bruised and upset after a driver got out of her car and hit her in the face after a small car collision.

A close pal revealed that she was deeply shocked: "Rebecca was on her way up to The Ivory Closet in Limerick to collect her gown for Miss Ireland this Saturday.

"She hit a car in front, it was only a small bump. But the woman in the other car got out and punched her in the face. She was really upset afterwards and she was clearly in complete shock."

Rebecca has played down the assault saying that it "sounded more dramatic than it actually was" and insists that she is looking forward to the Miss Ireland finals.

The Donaghmede beauty told the Herald that despite the initial shock of the attack, she is feeling fine now and is ready to compete for the coveted crown. "I'm fine now and my car is fine. I was just really shocked. Thankfully there is no bruising now on my face.

"I'm just excited about the contest. We have been doing rehearsals, I'm definitely less nervous now," she said.

Rebecca will represent Dublin North against 29 other finalists seeking to succeed Emma Waldron as Miss Ireland.
