Minster urged to put a halt to 'drug dealing'

HEALTH Minister James Reilly (right) has been urged to criminalise the carrying of certain medications without a prescription.

The Dublin City Business Improvement District (BID) flagged areas in the north inner city as particularly problematic.

The organisation cited prescription medicines such as zopiclone, diazepam, zimovaine and valium, which it says are being sold in broad daylight.

CEO Richard Guiney cited a recent Dublin City Council survey that found that 36pc of respondents saw drug dealing as the worst thing about Dublin. Local businesses feel drug dealing is damaging trade, said Mr Guiney.
