Michael Douglas in tribute to mum

Michael Douglas has paid tribute to his mother Diana, who died after a battle with cancer.

"My mother had an incredible sense of dignity and was a class act," Douglas (70) said at a special screening for his latest film, Ant-Man, in New York.

The Hollywood actor called her a "lady" and alluded to his shortcomings, saying: "I've let her down a couple of times in my life, but she certainly was a strong influence."

His mother was married to Spartacus star Kirk Douglas. but they divorced in 1951. Kirk Douglas will be 99 in December.

Ant-Man is based on the Marvel comic of the same name and stars Paul Rudd in the title role.
