Mechanic had €13k of cocaine

A mechanic who was caught dealing €13,000 worth of cocaine "to make a few quid" has been given a four-year suspended sentence.

James Cummins (25), of Monksfield Avenue, Clondalkin, pleaded guilty at Dublin Circuit Criminal Court to the sale and supply and possession of 197g of cocaine at Boomers pub and at his home on May 11, 2008.

Cummins was arrested and six bags of cocaine were found in his socks and a further bag of cocaine in his jeans pocket with a total value of €1,500.

Gardai searched his house and found a sports bag with cocaine worth €11,500 in it.

Bedroom thief gets four years

A chronic drug addict who broke into a couple's bedroom while they were sleeping has received a seven-year sentence with three suspended.

Judge Patrick McCartan said Philip Sheeky's expressions of remorse "fell thin" because he was a "consistent career criminal" with 35 previous convictions for burglary.

Judge McCartan described Sheeky (29), of Donomore Avenue, Tallaght, as a serious threat to the community.

Sheeky pleaded guilty at Dublin Circuit Criminal Court to trespass and theft at a Temple Court premises in Santry in the early hours of July 27, 2008.

He took €100 of cash, jewellery and car keys, which were recovered a few days later.

Driver banned for 20 years

A BRICKLAYER who was spotted by a garda driving without his seatbelt was already banned from driving and wasn't insured, a court heard.

Peter Keenan (33) claimed he was helping his sick father to move materials from his house to his own house.

He was banned from driving for 20 years.

Keenan, of Abbeywood Crescent, The Oaks, in Lucan, admitted before Blanchardstown District Court to driving without insurance or a licence. He also admitted driving while already disqualified in the incident on July 1 last year.
