Manufacturing falls

PRODUCTION among manufacturing industries fell by 13.9pc in September from August, new figures from the Central Statistics Office show.

On an annual basis, production in September decreased by 13.7pc compared to the same month last year.

The figures show that the modern sector -- which is made up of a number of high-technology and chemical sectors -- showed a monthly decrease of 22.4pc in September.

The biggest change was in basic pharmaceutical products and preparations, which slumped by more than 35pc.
