Man released in Kerr murder

Police investigating the dissident republican murder of policeman Ronan Kerr have released a man arrested in connection to his death.

The PSNI arrested the 39-year-old man in the Omagh area yesterday under the Terrorism Act.

Another man, from Omagh, was arrested in Milton Keynes, Buckinghamshire, on Monday and taken to a police station in England for questioning.

Mr Kerr's death was blamed on dissident republicans opposed to the peace process.

Collymore in Twitter abuse

A man has been arrested after ex-footballer Stan Collymore was allegedly racially abused on Twitter.

The man was last night in police custody.

Northumbria Police said yesterday: "At 9.55am this morning police received a report of racist tweets and are carrying out inquiries to trace the person responsible."

They added: "A 21-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of publishing written material to stir up racial hatred and is currently in police custody helping police with their inquiries."

Ex stabbed parrot with fork

A 63-year-old Washington man has been sentenced to six months in jail for fatally stabbing his ex-girlfriend's parrot with a serving fork.

It has been reported that Richard J Atkinson pleaded guilty to animal cruelty and domestic-violence malicious mischief in the attack.

His defence said Atkinson may have mixed medication with whiskey.
