A Dublin man has been jailed for shouting drunken abuse at gardaí when they found him arguing with two women in the middle of the road.
Patrick Lawrence (28) was given a one-month sentence when he appeared before Blanchardstown District Court.
Lawrence, of Liffey Hall, Liffey Valley, Lucan, pleaded guilty to public intoxication and threatening, abusive and insulting behaviour.
Garda Michael Dunne said he found Lawrence arguing outside the Clayton Hotel, Liffey Valley, in the early hours of last May 9.
Intervened
He became highly agg- ressive, shouted "f**k off" at them and was very unsteady on his feet.
He had to be helped to stand, appeared to be "heavily under the influence of an intoxicant" and was arrested, Gda Dunne said.
"This was a case of too much drink," defence solicitor William Cadogan said.
There was "some sort of dispute" and Lawrence intervened before "one thing led to another".
Lawrence gave the gardaí no more trouble after his arrest and apologised.
Judge David McHugh fixed recognisances in the event of an appeal.
