A MAN who was attacked in broad daylight in Swords with a baseball bat last month has died from his injuries.

Taiwo Jamani (45), who ran a computer repair business, sustained head injuries in the assault in the town's Main Street on October 10.

Mr Jamani had been on life-support since the incident but he died in Beaumont Hospital in the early hours of yesterday.

Bloodstained

Shoppers and passers-by looked on in horror as Mr Jamani was set upon in the lunchtime attack.

The Herald first revealed the shocking incident when it occurred around 12.20pm.

At the scene the victim's bloodstained clothing could be seen on the road, as well as medical swabs and scissors used by the emergency crews to cut the clothing from Mr Jamani.

A pool of blood was also visible on the road.

Mr Jamani previously lived in Cork but was originally from Nigeria.

Jooda Akanbi (37), with an address in Swords, has been charged in connection with the serious assault.

Gardai have renewed an appeal for anyone who witnessed the incident, or may have recorded any images on mobile phones, to contact them on 01 666 4700. Supt Ronan Galligan said there were scores of shoppers in the vicinity at the time of the attack.

"I believe there were approximately 30 or 40 people around at the time," he said.

"It is an absolutely vital part of our investigation."
