A MAN who assaulted a woman by punching her in the face and pulling her hair has been convicted and fined a total of €500 at Swords District Court.

Nazrul Islam (39), of Moylaragh Walk in Balbriggan, was also convicted and fined for breaching a protection order on the same date.

Islam pleaded guilty to assaulting the woman and breaching the protection order on July 5, 2014, at Moylaragh Walk in Balbriggan.

Garda Lucy Woods gave evidence that she received a call from the woman, who had locked herself in the bedroom after she was attacked by the defendant.

Injured

Gda Woods said Islam punched the woman in the face, threw her on to the bed and hit her on her back, pulling her hair.

After Judge Patricia McNamara asked what the situation was between the defendant and the injured party now, she was informed they are both attending mediation.

Defence solicitor Fiona D'Arcy said their "relationship is now going well" and the incident happened over a year ago.

Judge Patricia McNamara convicted and fined Islam €250 for assaulting the woman.

She further convicted and fined him another €250 for breaching the protection order.
