A man has appeared before a court charged with the rape and false imprisonment of a woman in a Dublin hotel room.

The man is further accused of attempted rape and two counts of sexual assault.

As part of his bail conditions, the 27-year-old has been ordered to have no contact with the alleged victim or any witnesses for the duration of the case.

Judge David McHugh adjourned the matter to a date in February for the service of the book of evidence.

The accused, with an address in south Dublin, appeared before Blanchardstown District Court charged with sexually assaulting a woman.

The alleged incident took place at the Crowne Plaza Hotel in Blanchardstown on July 4 last.

The man was further charged before Blanchardstown court with rape, attempted rape and false imprisonment, as well as a second count of sexual assault at the same time and place.

Gardai said he made no reply to the new charges after caution, and he was handed a true copy of the charge sheets.

Defence solicitor Simon Fleming asked for bail to be extended to the new sheets.

The court heard that the DPP has directed trial on indictment in the Central Criminal Court on the charges.
