Majella lends a hand again with selfie for friend

BRAVE Majella O'Donnell (inset) is getting on board with the selfie craze once again and lending her name to a good cause.

The inspirational wife of singer Daniel O'Donnell is rallying support for her hairdresser and close friend John Maher, to raise vital donations for the Irish Cancer Society.

Majella and pals are hoping to replicate the phenomenal success of the 'no make-up selfie', which raised a staggering €1m for the charity, and are backing John to take a selfie pre or post hair appointment as part of their Pink Weekend over the Bank Holiday Weekend of July 31 to August 2.

All punters have to do is make a text donation, which the salon will match.

Last Saturday was a year to the day that the businesswoman and other half of music legend Daniel was diagnosed with breast cancer.

"One of the first questions women ask when affected by cancer is 'will I lose my hair?' and it's something we can't shy away from," the 54-year-old said.

"So it's rather apt that a hair salon is taking on the mantle and supporting the thousands of women all over Ireland affected by breast cancer," the mother-of-two added.

The venture is extremely poignant considering that Majella had her hair shaved in front of a live audience on the Late Late Show last September by John himself.

And it was this act of bravery by his friend of 20 years that inspired the salon director to do something more pro-active to support the cause.

"I think that we can all do our bit, however small, in raising funds and being more health aware," said John.
