Look and learn, Una, as Helen shows style comes with age
After a busy weekend on my mad fitness buzz (pre Dublin City Marathon as a 'Sparathon'), cleaning buzz and visiting Mr Leo buzz in Cheeverstown, I finally sat down on Sunday night in the family home to flick through some wedding pictures from my cousin's recent nuptials.
I didn't attend for work reasons but she looked beautiful. She stole the show, as brides should do.
However, there was stiff competition from my Mam and my Auntie Babs -- who outrank most younger women when it comes to fashion choices.
I know I am biased as they are two of my favourite people in the world, but I am not exaggerating. They have the fashion nose and always dress to suit their shape.
Admittedly, everyone makes more of an effort for weddings but equally, half the guests inevitably get it wrong.
Saturdays singer Una Healy (29) at Zara Phillips' wedding last weekend is a perfect example.'Trying too hard' is how I would describe her too tight, too short, bandeau-style dress.
All of the above made me very happy when I read that the gorgeous Helen Mirren has been voted the 'best body in show business'.
Elle 'the body' Macpherson was second.
Dame Helen is 66. Elle is 48.
So neither are spring chickens. But they both still have it all going on. As do the matriarchs of my family.
The thing I have always noticed with Mirren is that she never promotes her obvious sex appeal at public appearances.
She dresses for her shape and has an enviable eye for accessories (as do my two familial style icons). The Dame also always exudes confidence on the red carpet -- and that can only come from being comfortable in one's own skin.
We all get heavier as time passes. Wrinkles appear, skin gets slacker but, guess what -- sometimes all of the above makes you a more attractive person, and at 66 can get you the 'best bod in showbiz' title.
