Long in Trapattoni squad

GIOVANNI Trapattoni has shrugged aside Roy Hodgson's clear indication that Shane Long will be out for six weeks and included him in his squad for the Euro 2012 play-off against Estonia.

Bizarrely, there is no place for Leon Best (pictured) in an extended squad, although Trapattoni has held out the possibility that the Toon striker could yet be called up if other options do not recover.

"Usually, I have a big squad because every game we have a surprise or an injury. I was in touch with Robbie Keane and he is sure he will be available for us," claimed Trapattoni.

"I was in touch with Shane Long and he said that the injury was not so bad. His manager said six weeks and our doctor asked their doctor. Maybe in the next few days we will know better," added Trap.

"He is in the squad, as is Kevin Doyle and Robbie. But if he is not fit for the first game, three days will not make any difference and he will not be ready for the second-leg. We have five strikers. We have Kevin Doyle for the second game. Maybe we can call up Leon Best."

Trapattoni refused to be drawn into a discussion about his contract and ended all talk on the subject abruptly: "I will not talk about this until after the games."
