LIVERPOOL, Celtic and Spurs last night all crashed out of the Europa Cup to complete a miserable week for the Premier League and SPL in Europe.

After dismal Champions League displays from Arsenal and Manchester City in midweek, Roberto Martinez's (inset) Everton are the only English team left in the Europa Cup after last night's Round of 32 was completed.

Brendan Rodgers spoke a great deal about the past before the game against Besiktas and 10 years on from Champions League glory via a penalty shoot-out at the Ataturk Stadium, Liverpool emerged on the wrong end of sudden death with Dejan Lovren missing after nine perfect spot-kicks. Beskitas forced extra-time with a goal from Togay Arslan which levelled the tie at 1-1.

Another epic Celtic adventure came to an end after a heroic rearguard action in the San Siro. Virgil van Dijk was sent off in the 26th minute but the Bhoys kept the tie alive until the dying moments when a thunderbolt from Fredi Guarin gave Inter a 4-3 aggregate win.

Mario Gomez and Mohamed Salah gave Fiorentina a 2-0 victory over Tottenham Hotspur and eased into the next round on a 3-1 aggregate.
