Audi gets even sexier with the all-new S range

BE prepared to be shocked, stunned and awe-struck by the sheer beauty of the new S- range from Audi including the S6, S7 and the mega S8.

What makes the S so alluring world-wide is the heady mix of blistering performance combined with styling that is sporty and elegant, yet understated at the same time.

The new line-up is destined to slug it out in the premium performance end of the market against the savage M5 and a slew of new M-sport diesels coming on stream from BMW.

All are equipped with new "Cylinder on demand" technology which will feature across other models in the Audi range in the coming months.

We here at Top-Gear first experienced this new technology on the A1 Sportback which was only a 1.4 litre petrol so the efficiency should be remarkable in a V8.

Here the Cylinder on demand shuts down 4 of the 8 cylinders when the engine is at half load -- reducing fuel consumption.

When required, all 8 cylinders are available instantaneously resulting in no power loss. This leads to a 25pc reduction in emissions for S8 (compared to the previous model, despite a 15pc increase in power).

The S8 is the one which will be after the M5 crown and is now packing a massive 520bhp and more torque.

Looks-wise you'll be in no doubt as to its pedigree with little tell-tale signs like the aluminium mirrors, twin chrome tailpipes, body coloured side sill trims and matt black brake callipers.

On the inside, the red S logo is emblazoned on specific inlays, badging, instrument clusters, upholstery and welcome screens to finish the look.

Standard kit is quite generous too with the S6 getting 19-inch S design alloys, air suspension, electric seats, Xenon lights and a subtle rear spoiler.

S7 gets the added bonus of leather sports seats, and sat nav while the sumptuous S8 gets the full Monty.

She comes with 20 inch alloys, quattro all wheel drive with sport differential, Bose surround sound, DVD changer, LED headlights and carbon atlas inlays.

All S models are fitted with Audi Drive Select as standard which allows the driver to change the settings of the steering, suspension and gear ratio to suit different conditions.

Due to be officially launched in June, Audi Ireland today announced price and order information for all versions.

The S6 saloon will be priced from €86,900, (Avant price unavailable) the S7 from €106,540 and the S8 from €130,540.

We wait in eager anticipation on the arrival of the M-Sport diesels and then the real battle will commence. Watch this space.
