With just over a month left until entry for the Flora Women's Mini Marathon closes, charities such as 1 in 1000 - Running for Cystic Fibrosis are offering special incentives to get their members mobilised.

"We have 650 names signed up for our campaign to have a team of one thousand in the mini marathon and, of those, we know that over 200 are already registered," says Natasha McNeill, chief organiser of the scheme.

"We are putting everyone who enters the Flora Women's Mini Marathon by March 31 into a draw, with two nights B&B for two at Rathsallagh Country House our top prize and five runner-up prizes of RoC skincare hampers. So in the nicest possible way, we are trying to persuade women to get their entries in early."

1 in 1000 is a unique initiative founded by six women -- grandmother, mother, aunt, sister and cousins -- who wanted to do something for CF following the diagnosis of Emily and Lana Woodward, now aged four years and two years.

"We had all done funding for cystic fibrosis in the past but we were looking for something unite and it was my cousin Carol who came up with this idea," says Natasha.

Each of the core ten women not only donate €200 themselves, but undertake to find ten other women to sign up.

"In theory, everyone will get another ten women and that will be our thousand. But we know it won't work like that -- one woman has already got 14, while others are finding it tough. We've also got independent people. It will also work out in the end."

Every cent raised will go towards the €200,000 required to complete a new four-bed Cystic Fibrosis isolation unit in Our Lady's Children's Hospital Crumlin.

"Crumlin is a wonderful, wonderful hospital and this project will be completed in July so it's very tangible -- people will see where their money went."

On the day, members of the 1 in 1000 team will gather at the Harcourt Hotel in bright orange t-shirts and are determined to make themselves visible.

"It's not just about raising the money. It's also about bringing women together for a great cause, spreading the word, and raising spirits. Women love to get involved."
