the race is on to vote for your heart hero

This year, Flora wanted to recognise the amazing and inspirational women who participate in the Flora Women's Mini Marathon with the Flora Heart Heroes competition.

Receiving almost 70 applications, the judging panel found selecting the shortlist a humbling experience.

"I wish to thank everyone who took the time to send in an application. All of the amazing women who were nominated deserve to be recognised for their achievements. The three women selected represent the best of what this event is all about," said Niamh Lennon, brand manager Flora.

From today, you can cast your vote for the Flora Women's Mini Marathon Flora Heart Hero at www.floraheartheroes.com.

Voting closes on June 5, with the winner receiving a €1,000 cheque for their charity and the two runners-up both receiving a €500 cheque for their charities. These will be presented on the day of the women's mini marathon.

The shortlisted candidates are:

  • Lucianne White: Lucianne, age 30, is raising money for the charity Bodywhys. Lucianne suffered with bulimia for a period of 10 years and wants to help others struggling with the same demons she faced.

  • Emma Doyle: When Emma, aged 30, was born her parents were told she would never walk. Emma has proved them wrong and, each year, she tries to get one kilometre further down the road during the Flora Women's Mini Marathon. This year, after five years, her goal is six kilometres. She is raising money for the Parkinson's Association of Ireland.

  • Mandy King: Four years ago, 35-year-old Mandy, a mother to two, was diagnosed with a tumour on her leg. After chemo failed, she had her leg amputated above the knee. In spite of losing her leg, Mandy walks on a treadmill three times a week and is determined to walk as far as she possibly can on mini marathon day.
