MAD ABOUT METALLICA

Metallic dresses got a massive thumbs up at the CFDA Fashion Awards at the Lincoln Center in New York City on Monday evening. From sequinned details to bronze, gold and silver dresses, there's no avoiding the fact that styles with sheen are set to become a summer staple over the next couple of months.

Model Karolina Kurkova (29) arrived with legs which went on forever in a Michael Kors-designed short silver metallic suit.

Nicole Richie (31) was taped in place in her metallic slip dress from Marc Jacobs' fall 2013 collection.

Victoria's Secret model Adriana Lima (31) showed off her pins at the fashion awards in a sheer dress by Givenchy, with a molten black top half.

Supermodel Miranda Kerr (30) wore a shimmering blue metallic Proenza Schouler dress – the label that was later awarded Womenswear Designer of the Year during the awards ceremony.

Socialite Olivia Palermo (27) wore a Dennis Basso spring 2013 fancy fringed frock. The nude dress had an embroidered sheer bodice and shiny metallic embellishments.

CURVES

Actress Rose Byrne (33) wore a short, cocktail frock by Thakoon, with a black matte paillettes bodice and apron-like shiny overlay.

Comedian and actress Ellie Kemper (33) wore a Naeem Khan gold metallic-style dress, Rupert Sanderson heels, Irene Neuwirth jewellery, and a Just Fab clutch.

Metallics have been sneaking onto the red carpet for a while now. TV personality Laura Whitmore (28) opted for a metallic mini-dress by Zoe Jordan for the Brits.

Former Bond girl Berenice Marlohe (34) went for all-over metallic in a floor-length foil-type silver dress which showed off her curves at the music awards.

Hollywood star Helen Hunt (49) wore a silver metallic Romona Keveza gown to the SAG Awards. Actress Naomi Watts (44) wore a fully sequinned grey Armani Prive gown to the Oscars and looked like she'd been dipped in silver.

Nicole Kidman (45) really sparkled in a L'Wren Scott gold and black dress at the Academy Awards, which made her look like a moving metallic statue.

Less is more when it comes to metallics.

Whatever you do, don't put metallic shoes with a metallic jacket or you'll look like a recycling centre. Use neutral tones to balance out the brightness of a metallic piece.

Plus keep accessories to a minimum as you've got enough bling going on with your metallic statement piece.
