I'm not as nervous as I thought I'd be for English -- I feel like I'm prepared

Jack (15) was an early arrival at Sandford Park school this morning, after a short walk from his home in Ranelagh.

"I've spent the last couple of days going over my English notes and hopefully it will pay off today. I'm not as nervous as I thought I'd be because we've spent so much time preparing in class.

"Hopefully the first paper will be straightforward enough without too many surprises. As long as the themes are general enough it should be okay.

"I like the creative writing side of the exam so I'm not too worried about Paper One.

"Paper Two will be a bit tougher. I've studied two novels; All Quiet on The Western Front by Erich Maria Remarque and Of Mice and Men by John Steinbeck.

"I preferred All Quiet on the Western Front and would be happy with a question on that but I'd be confident enough with both texts.

"I finished studying early enough last night and had a bit of time to relax before I went to bed. I watched a little bit of television and it helped to take my mind off the exams.

"After English Paper Two I'll be heading straight home to prepare for my Irish exams which are on tomorrow."
