How to beat the bike raiders

BICYCLE shop owner Richie McCormack told the Herald the selling of stolen bikes in Dublin is a major problem.

Mr McCormack (inset) has been operating his business in Dorset Street since 1988 and many of his customers have fallen victim to theft.

His advice to cycle owners includes:

nAlways park your bike near a garda station;

nUse two locks, both a coil/cable lock and a shackle/U-lock;

nBuy the best lock you can afford;

nNever think that 'hiding' a bike down a lane is safer, it's the worst place to park it.
