Time was, we would have done anything and everything to avoid having oily hair. Using oil as a styling product, however, is another thing entirely. It is one of the 21 st century's greatest advances. Oh, I am totally serious: my hair is healthier than it has ever been. Try one of the oils below and see ...

MOROCCANOIL Light Treatment, €38 HHHHH This is the classic for a reason: it smells gorgeous and makes your hair look gorgeous. It's celebrity hair in a bottle, a little dose of salon treatment, right in your own home. This 'light' version is for blondes. Plus? The 100ml bottle will last you a long, long time. Great value at the end of the day, and your hair will look like a million euros.

KÉRASTASE Elixir Ultime Oléo Complexe + Moringa Immortel, €34 HHIII Hair oil, plus scent! There was much excitement chez T&T. Except that it didn't really scent my hair as I had hoped, and even after several tests, with increasingly smaller doses, the oil was that bit too much for my fine hair. Those with more robust follicles may find joy here.

AVON Advance Techniques 360 Nourishment Moroccan Argan Oil, €7, HHHHI One pump and you've got more than enough of this little gem to give long hair a sleek, styled look. Those with sassy short cuts may find they need even less. The learning curve may result in a few mediocre hair days, but you'll get your value out of this in the end. Also: great second day hair, the only one of this lot to produce such an effect!

L'ORÉAL Extraordinary Oil Sublime Hair Enhancer, €14.99, HHHII This has many uses, but right this very second, I am dousing my dry hair in it, as a pre-shampoo treatment. This can be used on dry hair, damp hair, and all hair in between. Found it to be less effective as a styling aid.

CARINO Miracle Oil, €3.99, HHHHI Can't beat this for value for money, for sure. There is no pump, so you have to shake this into your palm, which seems annoying at first. In actual fact, it makes it easier to use just the correct amount of product. It works well on dry hair to keep the ends of your hair in check, not so much the closer to the scalp you get. This is a big hit in Aldi, so it flies off the shelves -- just so you know.
