Softness is at hand

Oh, hand cream, I have to say, I have found it difficult to fall in love with you.

I get such joy from so many other aspects of my beauty regime -- hair masks, face exfoliants, body lotion that has glitter in it -- that it may be possible that I don't have room in my heart for you. I think I just hate having to take off the rings, rub the lotion into my hands, wait for it to dry, and then put the rings back on. Therefore, I decided that the defining characteristic that would be investigated in this category would be rate of absorption. Let's see how I got on, shall we?

YES TO CARROTS Hand and Elbow Cream, €10.95 * * * * I adore the YtoC scent, it reminds me of something, probably from childhood, though for the life of me I can't remember what it is. Anyway, this is for hands and elbows, which is unusual (it's usually nails). I found myself skipping the hands entirely, as this didn't soak in as fast as I'd have liked. Nice on the auld elbows, however, so check this out if yours are particularly scaly.

CLARINS Hand and Nail Treatment Cream, €21 * * * * You know, only two down on the list, and I'm beginning to get the hang of this hand-rubbing business. It's a nice, soothing thing to do. This feels a little, teeny bit sticky, but also feels like I've just moisturised my hands to the max.

SIANA Conditioning Hand Cream, €1.29 * * * Hmm, don't like the scent of this one much, but for an economy brand from Aldi, it's got an amazingly rich texture. Points off, though, because it sunk in almost too quickly, and the softness one expects from a hand cream did not linger for long.

WELEDA Sea Buckthorn Hand Cream, €7 * * * * Natural products can cost a bundle and then come across as cheaply made, but not Weleda. The cream is rich, and it sinks in well enough. Not too crazy about this scent either, but on the other hand (ha!) it doesn't leave a sticky residue. Great for all you nature lovers.

JO MALONE Vitamin E Nourishing Hand Treatment, €48 * * * * * This does indeed feel like you're giving your hand a treat. The vitamin E smells lovely and fresh, absorbs super quickly, and leaves only a glorious softness behind. I think I may have finally fallen in love with a lotion . . .
