Behind the brand: Jurlique

AUSTRALIAN skincare company Jurlique was founded in 1985 by Dr Jurgen Klein and his wife Ulrike, scientists in chemistry, herbology, homeopathy and alchemy.

The range is based on a special type of farming called biodynamics which goes beyond usual organic methods and the company’s mission is “to produce the purest, most effective skincare through nature, science and innovation”.

Biodynamic farming combines biological practices such as organic methods of soil enrichment and regeneration, with practices focused on the rhythms of nature. The key to it all is healthy soil, which says Jurlique, maximises the health or “living energy” of plants as they grow (no herbicides or pesticides are used).

Jurlique operates out of two farms spread over 153 acres in South Australia. More than 30 different varieties of plants and flowers including lavender, rose, marshmallow, liquorice and calendula are grown there to be used in the products.
