Best buddies go to town

The first photos of Jennifer Aniston playing a psychiatrist called Bonnie in Cougar Town have just been released. The movie actress looks golden skinned with tousled, blonde hair for her return to the small screen in the Florida-based sitcom.

Such is the buzz around Aniston joining her real-life best friend Courteney Cox in the TV series, it shows how hooked we all are on the idea of these two remaining firm friends after appearing together in the popular series Friends for 10 years.

Aniston (41) will guest star on the season two premiere of the ABC comedy (to be broadcast in the States on September 22 and here a little later) as a psychiatrist who becomes super close to Jules (played by Cox) and steals her away from her other friends.

Her role in the series about older women -- often divorcees -- falling for younger men, will undoubtedly increase the ratings for the show, which is also produced by Cox. The series has been steadily increasing its fanbase, despite competition from Modern Family and The Middle.

Cox plays the lead role in the series, Jules Cobb, a recent divorcee trying to juggle her professional life with her personal life, which includes raising a son in high school and trying to date again.

The former Friends' stars have supported each other through some real-life dramas -- Aniston's divorce from Brad Pitt and Cox's struggle to have children -- and now Aniston (who can currently be seen in the cinema in The Switch) is set to hang out with her best mate again.

So far, there's no hint of whether she'll have any on-screen romance in the series. She has recently dated Cougar Town cast member Josh Hopkins. The two shared an intimate conversation over a two-hour dinner at Italian restaurant, Madeo, in Beverly Hills last week. They were seated at a private table, and an onlooker said, "It was obvious that they don't know each other well, but there was a flirty energy between them."

Aniston has been previously linked to singer John Mayer and Vince Vaughn, with whom she co-starred in the film The Break-Up. She divorced Brad Pitt in 2005 and has remained single. Meanwhile, Pitt has moved on with a new life with Angelina Jolie.

In fact, the main relationship in Aniston's life in recent years seems to be her friendship with best mate Courteney.
