Celebrities highlight breast cancer survival

Well-known women give a face to breast cancer survival, and are an inspiration to the women who each year are diagnosed with the killer disease.

Stars such as Kylie Minogue reassure them that with swift diagnosis and immediate treatment, survival is not only highly likely, but so too is a return to a full, fulfilling, and even famous life.

Nurse Jackie star Edie Falco was diagnosed with stage one breast cancer while working on The Sopranos, and endured chemotherapy before going into remission. Her cancer experience was so life transforming, she went on to adopt a son.

>>Actress Christina Applegate is best known for playing Kelly Bundy on the US sitcom Married with Children. Three years ago, when she was 36, she was diagnosed with breast cancer, and opted to have a double mastectomy rather than chemotherapy or radiation. Following reconstruction, she went on to marry.

>>Grease star Olivia Newton John (below), plus Charlie's Angels actress Jaclyn Smith are also survivors of the disease which afflicts an estimated 2,500 women in Ireland annually. As is funny woman and Absolutely Fabulous star Jennifer Saunders.
