IT'S been at the heart of Irish social and political life for generations – now the grand dame that is The Shelbourne is celebrating its 190th birthday.
The largest five star hotel in Dublin, The Shelbourne has 265 bedrooms including 19 suites, many named after well-known guests.
They include the Princess Grace Suite, with others named as John F Kennedy, Michael Collins and Eamon De Valera.
The Irish Constitution was drafted in room 112 in 1922 (pictured below), and the hotel has played host to movie legends including James Cagney, John Wayne, Laurel & Hardy, and Elizabeth Taylor and Richard Burton
A special birthday package is available until April 24, costing from €190 per room for one night's accommodation for two in a deluxe guestroom with full Irish breakfast served in the Saddle Room.
