99-year-old sent antenatal date

A hospital has apologised after sending a maternity appointment letter to a 99-year-old woman.

Doris Ayling, who has seven grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren, said she was amused to receive the letter to attend the antenatal appointment at Fareham Community Hospital in Hampshire.

The letter even had the date of birth of Mrs Ayling, who lives in Bognor Regis, West Sussex.

Mrs Ayling will turn 100 in November and has three children of retirement age.
