RUGBY: Leinster will decide tomorrow whether to disappoint the thousands of fans who may have wanted to witness the mouth-watering Heineken Cup quarter-final clash against Clermont at Croke Park.

The preferred option for Leinster is to stage the game at the RDS, and so they are investigating the scope to increase the capacity from 18,500.

The province's fans, however, will get an earlier than expected glimpse of their coach-in-waiting when Joe Schmidt, Clermont's backs guru, hits town for the April showdown.

"It will be a special match for Joe," Clermont head coach Vern Cotter said with a smile ahead of tomorrow night's Top 14 clash against Racing Metro 92.

Investigation launched into extra Ospreys man

Rugby: European rugby officials confirmed yesterday that an investigation has been launched into the Ospreys' 16th-man controversy during their Heineken Cup win against Leicester Tigers.

Disciplinary officer Roger O'Connor is gathering statements from the clubs and match officials after European Rugby Club Ltd received an official letter of complaint from Leicester.

Lee Byrne returned to the field from the blood-bin during the second half of the Ospreys' 17-12 victory without the Welsh region withdrawing his temporary replacement, Sonny Parker.

While the Ospreys had 16 men on the field, Byrne was involved in a tackle on Leicester scrum-half Ben Youngs, which Leicester believed stopped a potential try.

Barry adds doubles success to singles win

tennis: Ireland's Sam Barry yesterday followed up on his singles first-round win in the Australian Junior Open with success at the same stage in the boys' doubles.

Barry and New Zealand's Ben McLachlan beat New Zealand pair Barrett Franks and Jaden Grinter 6-3 6-3 and now meet Chinese Taipei's Liang-Chi Huang and Japan's Yasutaka Uchiyama in the second round.
