Legal debates in Clayton case

The trial of Adam Clayton's former personal assistant was taken up with legal argument yesterday and is expected to resume in evidence on Monday afternoon.

Carol Hawkins (47) of Lower Rathmines Road, Dublin, denies 181 counts of theft from two of Mr Clayton's Bank of Ireland accounts over a four-year period from 2004 to 2008, totalling €2,862,567.

On Day Three of the Dublin Circuit Criminal Court trial, the judge sent the jury home for the weekend.

U2's bass guitarist, Mr Clayton (42), who attended the first two days of the trial, is expected to give evidence early next week.

Tot's body is hidden in case

The parents of a two-year-old boy whose body was found in their house in Jamaica have pleaded guilty to concealing his death.

Alphonso and Stephanie Warren were charged in January after neighbours stormed their Kingston home looking for the toddler because they hadn't seen him for months. Police found the mummified remains in a suitcase.

No one has been charged over the death. The couple previously abandoned a baby girl in a stairwell.

Six killed by suicide bomb

A suicide bomber blew up his car outside police headquarters yesterday in the northeast Nigerian city of Maiduguri, killing himself and six other people and wounding 20.

The blast occurred around noon after officers prevented the bomber from entering the compound. One policeman and two civilians were killed and six civilians were injured.

Killer uncle is copied by teen

A teenage relative of a notorious Australian serial killer has been sentenced to 43 years in prison for the axe murder of a friend in the same forest where his great-uncle killed seven backpackers.

It is alleged Matthew Milat (19) boasted after the murder: "You know me, you know my family... I did what they do."

Milat had admitted killing David Auchterlonie on the victim's 17th birthday in 2010 in the remote Belanglo State Forest.
