LAURA Whitmore may have shocked fans with her announcement yesterday that she is leaving MTV News, but Nicky Byrne has hinted there might be a new presenting role for her.

The 2fm presenter said he had heard from an insider that Laura (29) is in the running to host the brand new series of ITV reality show Celebrity Love Island.

"I just got a text and it was suggested Laura Whitmore could host Love Island," Nicky told his listeners.

axed

"Laura didn't text me, and it's not Louis (Walsh), but someone has said it to me."

It was previously reported that the show will return to our screens after it was axed in 2006.

While Laura has not confirmed the rumours, she said that "upcoming projects" are the reason behind quitting her MTV News role.

"After seven years, I have decided it's time to hang up my MTV news hat," she said in a post yesterday on Instagram.

The Bray native said she will continue to work on other projects with the channel.
