Launderette is gutted after mystery blaze

A business has been left destroyed after a fire broke out in a launderette in Dublin yesterday.

The alarm was raised shortly before 10am when smoke was seen coming from the premises on the main street in Lusk in north county Dublin.

Callers to the fire brigade reported seeing members of the public going back into the building as the blaze took hold.

Firefighters from Swords, Skerries and Balbriggan went to the scene and the incident commander reported that crews were using breathing apparatus as they entered the shop to fight the flames.

A fourth engine was later sent to the scene from Phibsboro station to bring specialist rescue equipment.

The cause of the fire was not initially known but the building was due to be inspected after the scene was declared safe.

A crew from ESB Networks was also asked to attend the scene to make the electricity supply safe.

Gardai directed traffic from the scene as the crews worked to contain the fire. There were no injuries.
