Late Late pens sponsor deal

RTE'S The Late Late Show has agreed a one-year sponsorship deal with Liberty Insurance for an undisclosed sum.

The Boston-based motor, home and commercial insurer took over embattled Quinn Insurance earlier this year.

The Late Late Show is RTE's flagship programme and celebrated its 50th birthday earlier this year.

The first show in the new season aired last night under a new producer, John McHugh.

Golfer shot for

hitting window

A US man has been arrested on suspicion of shooting and injuring a golfer after an errant ball broke a window at his home.

Jeff Fleming (53) is accused of firing a shotgun at a two golfers, striking one of them, on a course next to his home in Reno, Nevada.

The golfer was released after treatment at a local hospital for minor injuries.

The suspect drove to a local lawyer's office, where he surrendered and was released after posting bail.

64 dead after

China quakes

At least 64 people died after a series of earthquakes collapsed houses and triggered landslides in a remote mountainous part of south-western China.

Damage was preventing rescues and communications were disrupted.

The quakes started with a 5.6-magnitude shock before 11.30am along the borders of Guizhou and Yunnan provinces.

Another equally big quake struck shortly after noon followed by more than 60 aftershocks.

Another 715 people were injured.
