King George target for supreme Sizing
SIZING Europe simply annihilated a decent field in the Grade Two Clonmel Oil Chase at the Tipperary track yesterday in what was far and away his most convincing success to date.
Despite being 10, rising to 11 in six weeks, Sizing Europe certainly appears to boast as much enthusiasm as ever - if not more than ever - and he put out a real tempter for connections to seriously consider longer distances once again.
Ridden by Andrew Lynch, he eased his way to the front beyond half way and while he was steadied into the last, he was completely eased down after jumping that safely on the way to recording a very facile victory.
It was a performance that naturally pleased his trainer, Henry de Bromhead, who admitted, "the King George will be strongly considered", while he will also received entries for the 3m Lexus Chase at Leopardstown and the 2m Dial-A-Bet Chase, also at Leopardstown.
"That was two-and-a-half miles and he wasn't stopping, but he shows so much speed that you could go back to two with him. He's going to have a lot of options," De Bromhead added.
"We had agreed with Alan and Ann that we wouldn't try three miles again unless the ground was good and we're pleased we stuck with the decision."
Adding more on the King George, De Bromhead concluded: "The King George is a race that Alan would love to have a go at and we'll have to give it serious consideration."
A tilt at the John Durkan Chase at Punchestown will almost certainly be ruled out for Sizing Europe with the race coming early next month, meaning it would be too close in proximity to yesterday's win as well as Christmas.
Boylesports left Sizing Europe unchanged at 6/1 for the Queen Mother Champion Chase and cut him from 16/1 into 14/1 for the King George, while Paddy Power are just 10/1 from 12/1 for the Kempton showpiece.
Ladbrokes are also just 10/1 from 14/1, while that firm go 5/1 from 11/2 for the Champion Chase.
