Killester meet Marian as ball gets rolling

The 2012-13 basketball season was officially launched this week in front of a large audience at the National Basketball Arena.

The launch was attended by Barnardos CEO Fergus Finlay, who announced details of Basketball Ireland's official link up with the charity this season.

A full series of games is on the agenda in the Nivea For Men's SuperLeague and Basketball Ireland Men's and Women's Division One this weekend. Meanwhile, the Nivea Women's SuperLeague teams will attend a preparation tournament in the National Basketball Arena ahead of their official opening next weekend.

The season was officially launched last night as newcomers Dublin Inter opened their SuperLeague account against last season's beaten finalists DCU Saints at the National Basketball Arena.

The addition of Dublin Inter is a huge boost for the league and will see regular live top-flight action return to the National Basketball Arena. The team features a variety of international players as their squad hails from countries such as Estonia, Poland and Lithuania and will bring more international flavour to the game in Ireland.

Other highlights in the Nivea For Men's SuperLeague include reigning champions UL Eagles' trip to Cork to take on Bord Gais Neptune, while Killester and Moycullen face tough tests against UCD Marian and UCC Demons respectively. This weekend will also see Basketball Ireland Men's Division One teams in full tilt as their season gets under way.
