Kevin Doyle and Robbie Keane both provide July 4 fireworks in MLS

Doyle (pictured) had failed to find the net for Colorado Rapids since his May move from Wolves but the Wexford man finally managed his debut goal, helping Colorado to a 2-1 win over Vancouver Whitecaps.

"Kevin was really busy in the box getting his head on it. The commitment that Kevin showed defending the game was exceptional. Those three guys up there really left everything on the field were very dynamic in the attack. It was a great performance to build on individually and collectively continue to push forward," said Rapid coach Pablo Mastroeni.

It was also a good July 4 weekend for Robbie Keane as he came up with a hat-trick for LA Galaxy in a 4-0 thrashing of FC Toronto, ex-Bohemians keeper Chris Konopka on the receiving end of Keane's delivery.

"There's no such thing as an easy hat-trick.

I wish it was, if that was the case I'd score a hat-trick every week. You have to finish them. You have to be in the right place at the right time. When opportunities are like that, just be ready," Keane said.

"When you're out for so long, it can be difficult to get into the swim of things. But I've worked hard in the gym, and have continued to work hard on the training field, and when you do that, it pays off," he added.
