Kate's EP music to her parents' ears

HER mum is iconic Fair City actress Martina Stanley and her dad is well-known stage star Stephen Brennan, who made his name on racy drama The Tudors.

But according to singer and actress Kate Stanley Brennan, her move into the world of showbiz took her talented parents by surprise.

Kate, pictured left with her mother Martina, launched her first ever EP with new band, Miss Kate & The Higher State last week.

"They didn't really know at all that I wanted to do that so it was a bit of a surprise," Kate told the Diary.

"But they are totally supportive."

Support came in bucket loads from the acting world as her mum, who plays Dolores Molloy on Fair City, arrived at the launch party in Madison nightclub last Thursday accompanied by a string of her co-stars, including Bryan Murray and Catherine Byrne.

Kate describes her band's sound as "mainly funk and soul".

Acting runs in the blood for the singer who is currently on stage at the Abbey Theatre as Lilly in the Risen People, the iconic play charting the events of the 1913 lockout.
