Jonathan Rhys Meyers back filming Clash movie after relapse

Irish actor Jonathan Rhys Meyers is back filming after being snapped looking dishevelled and drinking from a vodka bottle in May.

The Golden Globe winner has put his “minor relapse” behind him as he looked the part on the set of his new movie.

The Cork native has been cast as The Clash frontman Joe Strummer in movie London Town.

Jonathan (37) looked the part in ripped black jeans, black biker boots, a rocker T-shirt and a black blazer.

Jim Sheridan’s daughter Kristin is one of the writers on the script and the film also stars Desperate Housewives actor Dougray Scott and Californication’s Natascha McElhone.

The film, set in 1978, centres on a teenager (Daniel Huttlestone) who ventures into central London from its bleak outskirts to find his estranged mother (McElhone), who’s sent him a cassette of the Clash’s White Riot.

Fans have been gathering at the film set in London and Jonathan took time to chat, take pictures and sign autographs.

mend

The film started shooting in London at the end of last month and should wrap by the end of this month.

The Tudors star seems to be on the mend since the worrying drinking photos emerged in May.

Jonathan took to his fiancee Mara Lane’s Instagram account afterwards to address the incident.

“Mara and I are thankful for your support and kindness during this time,” he wrote. “I apologise for having a minor relapse and hope that people don’t think too badly of me.”

His war movie Damascus Cover was looking for distributors at the time and Jonathan moved to distance his behaviour from the film.

“I stopped drinking immediately and it is no reflection of Damascus Cover as I was not meant to attend Cannes this year and I apologise to friends and colleagues,” he wrote.

“I am on the mend and thank well wishers and sorry for my dishevelled appearance as I was on my home from a friend’s and had not changed.

“I feel I made a mistake and feel quite embarrassed.”
