John's push Lucan limit
LUCAN SARFIELDS 2-13; BALLINTEER ST JOHN'S 1-15
Declan SheEhan's Ballinteer St John's came within a whisker of beating last year's semi-finalists after extra time in the Iveagh Grounds, writes Joe South.
Glenn Whelan's last-gasp penalty forced extra-time. After the opening period it looked like the Marlay men would nick a win as they were three points up with Lucan 'keeper Aiden Elliott sent off for an altercation with the umpire.
However, Lucan made a stunning comeback in the last few minutes of the game with four unanswered points. Former Dub Stephen O'Shaughnessy stroked over the winner with his left boot.
It was a cruel way for John's to lose out having dominated for long periods through the majestic Whelan and Peter O'Curry. Lucan had stunned John's with two breakaway goals just before half time and their experience and calm told in the end.
